Requested by rekozajebi2. Info from Wiki, optional specs are in bottom. The first generation Range Rover was introduced in 1970. Improvements compared to the Land Rover “Series” models included permanent four-wheel-drive with a lockable centre differential, all-coil suspension, disc brakes on all wheels, and a 3.5 L aluminium Rover V8 engine. The vehicle was built on a steel ladder frame, and most body panels were aluminium. However, design weaknesses, such as using steel bolts to fasten aluminium panels and poor anti-corrosion protection of the chassis, resulted in early vehicles suffering from electrolytic corrosion. Whilst in a car with a shorter expected lifespan this may have been of minor importance, in a strong, long-lived vehicle like the Range Rover (which runs well even after 20 years old) it needed to be corrected, by means such as Waxoyling the chassis and using stainless steel bolts. The original Rover 3.5-litre engine gave the original so much power and torque that it was popular with the police. Later upgrades enlarged the capacity to 3.9 litres and culminated in the 4.2-litre V8 block in the 1992-95 model. When people began to demand better fuel economy, Land Rover introduced a diesel. Originally, the Turbo D model used a 2.4-litre turbodiesel 4 cylinder engine from Italian manufacturer VM Motori, similar to their engine fitted to the Rover SD1 and later 800-series cars, but this had been intended to be a smooth petrol-like engine for cars, not off-roaders …

My family owns a 2004 Range Rover HSE. This thing is a gas-eater! I live in Colorado, and the winters here are horrible. This car can not handle them and it usually slips and slides and finally gets stuck. I think we’re going to sell it or trade it in for a BMW X5, which is a perfect 4-wheeler winter car because our neighbors have one and always tell us that we got ripped off with the Range. These cars are nice looking, but are barely pratical for most people.
@therocketmancan it was canoes
@therocketmancan Hahahaha!
@therocketmancan Hahahahaha!
yup, in canada i had one too, cant stand the winter here, so i bought a bmw x5 4.4i. it was worth the money.
the land rover was a eater on gas and the fused would always burn out. i want to buy a bmw m3 2004. but dont have the money.
I live in Australia and unfortunately range rovers have a terrible name for being unreliable and lots of electrical problems. A friend of mine has had 3 of them and all 3 cause constant issues. Anyone here who wants a decent 4WD will buy a Toyota Land Cruiser. In the mining industry which is quite big here, all they will use is Land Cruiser as well, everything else falls to bits.
In the UK the call what we call gasoline, or gas, petrol and what they mean by “gas” is the LPG.
@Rlnthndr it runs on petrol from the factory….not gas
..liquid petroleum gas ,or LPG conversion is a way to save at the pump…LPG is 50% of the cost of Petrol…but you have to factor in the conversion.. job …
converted to gas??? Dont they run on gas from the factory? lol But I love the range rovers and cant wait for a dealer to make me a deal on a 2010!!!! Its neat that you can fix up old ones this easily though.
I just bought a Range Rover just like this only a little newer and everything they say about it being excellent and posh is totally correct. I love it already and have only owned it a week. Mine is the posher Classic Brooklands Green though, typically called British Racing Green, propper…..
i would have tried to switch the two cars while test driveing, even the colour matches
-LPG for free!
