Hows the outlook for becoming a mechanic?

by admin on April 13, 2010

Im thinking of going back to school for auto mechanics. Is there anyone (preferably a mehanic) that may be able to tell me what they think the job outlook may be? Whats the pay really like, I could look up info on the ‘net but would like to know from someone thats had first hand experiance. With the fuel economy being the way it is and everyone going to differant fuel sources I wonder if I would be wasting my time.

I see a lot of grease in your future.

engines and driveline – 45,000.00+ per year
Body and paint – 55,000.00 + per year

If you are a specialist in a few different specifics you can make much more.

my husband is a mechanic, and he is very underpaid at the moment. You would really need to check your state and see what the pay average is? As far as business corn or not people have cars and those cars will break!

The auto mechanics I work with average about 50k. Be a diesel mechanic they make more. And think about it we will always needs semi trucks to hall things back and forth!

The auto industry is evolving from a predominantly mechanical business to an electronic one. But the mechanics profession hasn’t kept up.

This has led to fierce competition over qualified technicians between independent garages and dealer-run garages.

If you have the penitence and brain power to keep up with all that changes everyday then you might make it in the automotive field.

Starting out between $24,000 to $30,000 with commitment.

Middle range between $30,000 to $45,000.

Experience range between $50,000 to $100,000.
