ecoboost Technology — Description

by admin on August 28, 2010

Ford Motor Company is introducing a new technology called ecoboost that will deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy on half a million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles annually in North America during the next five years. The ecoboost family of 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines features turbocharging and direct injection technology. Compared with more expensive hybrids and diesel engines, ecoboost builds upon today’s affordable gasoline engine and improves it, providing more customers with a way to improve fuel economy and emissions without compromising driving performance. Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president of Global Product Development explains ecoboost and the company’s sustainability plan in this video.

Its not intended to be a sales video to keep your short attention span.

Actually, it’s the Fusion, Milan, and MKZ.

The MKS is the Lincoln Taurus. :)

Hamorage March 27, 2010 at 12:26 pm

none. 0. GM has nothing to match this. This is the holy grail for FF performance. It’s about time someone actually puts it into serious production.

twizatch March 27, 2010 at 12:34 pm

mks is bigger. mkz is the cross-branded fusion. both very nice tho. and make sure you get SYNC!!! I cant live without it.

“…340 plus hp, and 340 lb ft of torque…” There’s a good application for front wheel drive!!

guitaristwagner March 27, 2010 at 1:40 pm

yeah now they own a whopping 13% of mazda.

If I have to listen or watch anymore of this power point presentation I’m gonna throw up. This is not how you interest buyers. And why did they pick this old guy to present it. He sounds monotone and and does not seem enthusiastic about his own product that he is presenting.

I doubt it was the 335i.

They run 0-60 in the low 5’s high 4’s even with the automatic…

Chevy doesn’t use ecoboost, they use Ecotec (sp?). Right now chevy has 2 main versions, both 4 banger; the 2.0l turbo and the 2.4l naturally aspirated, both of which are used in sky (redline), solstice (gxp), cobalt (ss) HHR (ss), and a couple others. Ford will have the leg up with the v6, but expect chevy to combat this with its own turbo v6 soon, at least thats what I predict.

Fans of the SHO are used to seeing yamaha make the engine. will this be acceptable?

ivandiaz007 March 27, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Bring Back the SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO SHO…

BklynJayL March 27, 2010 at 5:30 pm

Lol…, that’s a good one! GM still uses pushrod engines. Some of them have direct injection, though…which, are good.

BklynJayL March 27, 2010 at 5:33 pm

The L. MKS is using the same platform with the V. S80, M. Sable and, F. Taurus.

BklynJayL March 27, 2010 at 6:32 pm

Lol…, Mazda? Ford owns Mazda! If it wasn’t for Ford…, where would Mazda get it’s car designs? Also…, as soon as, the “EcoBoost” engine comes out…, watch how Mazda starts requesting for them in their vehicles! One the other hand…, GM is questionable! Maybe they’re already using that tech….or, not. I’m not sure!

BklynJayL March 27, 2010 at 7:29 pm

You made a good point with, what you were saying…until, you called the “Ecoboost” engine a joke! I believe, that’s going to be a great Ford engine in the coming yrs.!

BklynJayL March 27, 2010 at 7:51 pm

Lol…, that’s a good one! ;-)

BklynJayL March 27, 2010 at 8:35 pm

No they’re not! The MKS shares the same platform as the Volvo S80, M. Sable and, F. Taurus.

bigbuggy12 March 27, 2010 at 8:47 pm

The point of direct injection is that you can inject the fuel right before combustion. This isn’t possibly with traditional injection since the valves are closed during the compression stroke. If you inject the fuel right before combustion you can raise the compression ratio without as much worry about pre-ignition. So tada problem solved, higher compression ratios, regular gas, and lots of power. This is the whole point of direct injection.

Ford… a whole lot of absolutely NOTHING.
Their initiatives just suck. They offer absolutely nothing substantial to save fuel at ALL! It’s purely and utterly bogus bogus and more bogus.

mflesh2001 March 27, 2010 at 9:20 pm

NONE. Chevy doesn’t have technology, sorry.

coolgeek123 March 27, 2010 at 9:45 pm

The MKS looks great in this video. I can’t wait until Ford puts this engine into the MKS, along with the new Taurus SHO, Fusion, ect..

anonymouscommentor March 27, 2010 at 10:07 pm

fusion and milan are similar to mkz not mks. mks is bigger

sixstringmazter March 27, 2010 at 10:39 pm

is it coming out for the 2010 taurus SHO?

bezzle67 March 27, 2010 at 10:45 pm

great tech… any idea if it’s coming out on the 2010 fusion considering the fusion, milan, and mks are basically the exact same car.

01Sable March 27, 2010 at 11:12 pm

I love watching that Taurus spanking the Caddy and The BMW!
