Trucking, Fuel, and Lives

by admin on July 29, 2010

Gail Nash and Randy Lambson are a couple who work for a trucking company based in the small town of Deckerville, Michigan. The rising cost of fuel has changed the way the trucking company operates, the way they think about their jobs, and, potentially, might change their lives. Improving Fuel Economy

by admin on July 28, 2010

If you have a powerful car and drive enthusiastically, you will probably not be blessed with a wonderful fuel economy. However, there are several steps you can take in order to reduce the amount of gas on every trip without driving like a miser. This article only majors on the most effective methods for reducing fuel consumption, if you need further advice, please do a search on Google – is there a wealth of information out there … Keep your car well maintained After the correct service intervals to keep your car running efficiently. New air filter allows the free flow of air supply for fuel efficient, clean fuel filter a steady flow of fuel to the cylinders, and shiny new spark plugs, the spark needed to give the whole thing on the road. A thing of beauty! The key here is the efficient burning of the fuel-air mixture, which will enable more power to be obtained from a given quantity of fuel. A new air filter alone could increase fuel efficiency by up to 10%. Tires Underinflated tires require more energy to roll. Keep the pressure on the right level can increase economy by up to 3rd 5%. Specialist fuel-efficient tires are also available, although these may not perform so well on the track! Tires are properly inflated also provide the key to optimum grip, so it is worthwhile to check at regular intervals. Gears With higher gears give you no lightning speed, but will save fuel. Keep your low-speed (but not so low that the engine starts to struggle) is a good habit to get into when cruising too. If you have a “Sport Mode” on a broadcast to have your car, turn it, as this depends on low gears longer and may even prevent changes to the highest cog railway. Accelerate hard in order to save fuel? A British automotive engineering company claims to have evidence to light that you put your foot hard on the accelerator can actually be more fuel than driving more conservatively. ”It sounds totally counter-intuitive to use – and it is,” admits Cousins. The key to saving fuel, he says, is it hard until the engine speed 2000 rpm achieved, move up a gear, then again reaches the min walk down to 2000 rpm. It has everything to do with internal friction. “Simply put, with his right foot on the accelerator, the engine operates in the most efficient,” said Cousins. Prior to undermine the benefits of 2000rpm, and then start with more fuel, not less. Here is the really interesting thing: In the tests carried out in a Citroën C1, one of the most fuel-efficient cars, Cousins’s driving technique is proved 8th 5% more efficiently promoted as the “eco-safe driving” style by the Ministry of Transport (http://www. Dsa. Gov. Uk – Search for eco-safe). The government’s official driving – taught to store all UK learner drivers taking the driving test and now – encourages drivers fuel with the throttle only slightly. Source: http://driving. Kleine Zeitung. co. uk / Dr. Steve Cousins should know what he speaks – he Axon Automotive project leader for the Caterham 2R, which reached 131 miles per gallon in the UK Shell Eco-marathon, was and is one of the leading scientists in the world in fuel economy. Accelerate gently to save fuel Although there are indications that the acceleration could save min hard to 2000 rpm and you are fueling the acceleration in the red line in every gear is certainly not. In general, try to keep a constant speed when possible, according to judge possible reasons to slow down in the road and react to them, avoiding rapid changes in momentum. If you are slowing down and speeds up the whole time, heating bills will go through the roof. Speed The faster you drive, the harder it is to drive your vehicle through the air. This means that was a small decline in cruise fuel consumption offer advantages. The UK Department for Environment said that all of 5 mph you drive over 65 MPH is a 7% decrease in fuel consumption have owned. By the way, if you believe that these figures are at 130 mph on the autobahns in Germany, you’ll use 91% more fuel than at 65mph. At 150, you’ll almost always negative miles per gallon, and you will arrive at your destination, if younger than you started! For more driving tips, visit DrivingFast. net

i think i ran out of gas, then put a lil gas from a can that had been in my trunk for 5 days in and wouldnt start up. after 2 hours i got more gas andputitin thenafterholdingthe pedal all the way down it started, but would not stay on at idle. drove home and gas/braked and coasted into the garage. its my only transportation and really need to get it fixed asap. been noticing that there has been alot of black smoke when i accelerate from a stop then it goes away until i nail it at about 30-40mph. been that way for a few weeks seems as if my fuel economy has been not so good lately but my fuel gauge doesnt work so i dont know for sure. there is a hard bend in the rubber line going to the mechanicl fuel pump which could have been straining the fuel but its been that way for a while. when it ran out of gas and i put old gas in, it seemed to be getting gas. i think i flooded it and it had plenty of time to drain. think i could have filed out the plugs trying to get it started?please help
